Celebrating the pipe organ, the King of Instruments |
The organ at St. Mary’s in Elsinore (Helsingør), if visually as Buxtehude knew it when organist in this church from 1658-1668, during which time he oversaw a considerable reworking in 1661-1663 by Hans Christoph Frietsche of the original 1641 design by Johann Lorentz.
…Danish recitalist Bine Bryndorf provides an in-depth assessment of the greatest organ composer before Bach, Dieterich Buxtehude, plus works by his teacher Heinrich Scheidemann and his ‘followers’ Nicolaus Bruhns and Johann Sebastian Bach.
