The premiere of the Concerto for Organ and Strings by Calvin Hampton was featured in one of the earliest PIPEDREAMS broadcasts back in 1982. Hear it here, along with the composer’s insightful commentary.

We also broadcast the premiere of the First Organ Concerto by Stephen Paulus which, like the Hampton piece, was a commission of the American Guild of Organists. Its success occasioned numerous subsequent Paulus commissions for organ solos, duets, and concertos, including today's Grand Concerto.
The 1992 premiere of the First Organ Concerto appears on our compact disc, Pipedreams Premieres, Volume 2 and also in our program archive, as does the premiere in 2002 of the Second Organ Concerto (for organ, orchestra and chorus).
